GMAT Essay Writing: The Tough World of Business

GMAT essay writing guide

GMAT is probably one of the most terrifying abbreviations for business schools applicants. GMAT essay writing assignment is the way business schools test your ability to write efficiently and persuasively, since those qualities are vital for businesspeople. With proper approach you can turn your GMAT essay writing into a mere pleasure of self-expression!

GMAT Essay Writing: Exam Structure

In the two sections of the GMAT essay writing section, you are to write the following essays:

  • Analysis of an Argument essay;
  • Analysis of an Issue essay.

GMAT Essay Writing: The Task

Although the two parts of the GMAT essay writing section may sound similar, each of them requires a completely different approach.

  1. In Analysis of an Argument, you are required to find faults with the reasoning of an argument presented in a short paragraph, and not to state your opinion;
  2. In Analysis of an Issue, you are required to choose and support one of the two controversial positions of an issue presented in a short paragraph.

GMAT Essay Writing: The Strategy

Each of the GMAT essay writing section parts requires an individual strategy to tackle it:

  • Analysis of an Argument requires a thoughtful insight into the argument from the point of view of its weak points. Select several of them and develop each into a paragraph trying to be as specific and detailed as possible.
  • Analysis of an Issue requires a well-grounded and exemplified defence of a certain position, preferably with recognition of the issue complexity and the objective perspective on the controversial position. Take care you do not turn this essay in a call to action, since this is not greeted by the graders.

Together with this advice, keeping your essay structure correct and varied, and using appropriate grammar and style will make your GMAT essay writing a success.
