Literature Essay Writing: It Is All About Literary Works
Literature essay writing is a common task, which can be seen during a literature course. Being given one of such assignments, one would wonder, what is so specific about literature essay writing that other types of essay do not contain. The answer comes pretty obvious – it is the literature. In literature essay writing, the attachment to the literature should be used in many accepted forms, a glimpse of which we will try to provide in the following short article.
Literature essay writing should have a strong connection to literary works, either one or many. The difference might be seen in that there are cases where such works are taken as the core of the literature essay writing process, building the analysis around them. In other cases, the works serve as a support for a particular point of view, either regarding other literary works, or literary conventions, movements, and authors. In any case, literature essay writing should be directly connected to literary works in analytical manner.
One rule that should be known and remembered all the time is that literature essay writing is not about summarizing. After all, there is a good reason for literature essay writing not being called literature summary writing. Thus, an accepted norm in literature essay writing is to analyze, not summarize the works. It is pretty obvious that in case the reader wanted to know what the story was about, he/she would have read it.
The analysis in literature essay writing is about linkage, connection, comparison, and contrast. The latter are merely examples, the common characteristics of which is NOT pointing to the obvious, but rather reading between the lines and finding the basis of the written texts.
You can see that writing literature essays is not a straight forward task, and thus, the writer should utilize literature knowledge with abstract and creative thinking. Of course the latter does not mean making things up, rather than changing one’s perspective in analyzing common things.
