Employee Involvement in DaVita’s Acquisition of Gambro

The case of Gambro being acquired by DaVita exemplifies the situation where employee involvement can drastically improve organizational results and success. It is mentioned that Gambro was more hierarchical, and there was a lack of a people-oriented policy that would decrease the rate of turnover and increase job satisfaction among employees (Cummings & Worley, 2015). Moreover, Gambro was technically bankrupt and was facing major technical, financial, and structural problems. Whether the issues correlate with such a low level of strategies aimed to improve employee morale and team spirit or not is unknown. On the other hand, before the changes started to occur, there were issues in this field.

Gambro was facing challenges while the more human resource-oriented DaVita was relatively successful. Furthermore, the implementation of new cultural, organizational objectives was helpful in mitigating adverse outcomes and creating a positive internal atmosphere. This correlation suggests that employee involvement is an essential corporate factor. The level to which this is vital is highlighted in the case study. Leaders were especially focused on creating an atmosphere in which employees feel like a part of a team and genuinely fulfill organizational objectives for the good of the company. Hence, employee involvement is effective when the workforce does not put personal goals higher than organizational aims.

Such an emotional attachment to a company that does not view team members as a human resource, but rather as essential entities that directly influence all processes and outcomes leads to efficiency. Employees involved as profoundly as exemplified in the case study are more likely to work hard to benefit the business itself. As a result, even challenging situations can be mitigated and minimized for the sake of future development and improvement.
