Selfridges Store and Its Design Success

The Selfridges stores were first founded in 1908 by Mr. Harry Godon Selfridge. Selfridges were formed as a substantial departmental store to sell fashion items such as clothes and shoes for both men and women. In 1909 the most extensive store was opened in London Oxford Street. This, later on, moved to become the second-largest designer store in the U.K. The store’s success is allowed to Mr. Harry Selfridge made the store successful by employing the best marketing strategies. He targeted marketing by arranging attractive products in the front space in the premise on the ground floor. This made his clients shop easily by looking through the windows, a term that was coined as window shopping.

Mr. Harry created a good sense of belonging with his customer, who always believed they are always right as this was his oxford store sales theme. Another factor that contributed to the fast growth of Selfridges was the target market. Mr. Harry targeted many scholars around Oxford educational facility. His primary clients were from the science and educational sector. Being American-born, he did not create a line of difference between his American clients and European clients. He treated all his clients equally and assisted them with equity and equality. Always his clients came first. Selfridges store’s architectural design and innovation is another factor that has led to the growth of luxury in the U.K, as it attracts most tourists who visit the country. During these tourism activities, many tourists are attracted to the goods, and this activity boosts Selfridge sales.

The proper decoration on both the inside and the outside of the stores led to many customers’ attraction. The whole building was done by different architects who employed other concepts and ideas to develop the complex, unique structure. Stone and marbles were used for the Salford stores. In 2009 the store did a 40million Euro renovation to give it a contemporary and iconic look. The self-ridge store’s recent major success was achieved when the store decided to open up its website to allow international buyers to access its products and order. It also ventured into delivery to let capture more clients. Selfridge later then translated its website into Chinese, which gave them a considerable number of following. The creation of a mobile app also gave it a more significant run. Sales were improved, and the company grew into one of the most excellent U.K. fashion and luxury brands.
