Quality control is essential for every company, as it is important to guarantee customer satisfaction and aim for improvement. In the following essay, I will briefly depict three companies that create good products and have had a stable positive reputation for many years. Then, I will depict the way quality is monitored in one of said companies more thoroughly, explaining the processes and their perception of that feature.
The first company is Zippo Lighters, which, as the name already shows, makes lighters. One of its important characteristics is that the company has been appreciated for 90 years and is still in high demand to this day. The second company is Maglite, which makes flashlights capable of lighting the room (MoneyTalksNews, 2022). While it has a factory located in the United States, they acknowledge and credit the foreign creators of the components for their goods.
The third company, Tervis, produces double-walled insulated tumblers that are used by both adults and children alike. Besides the aforementioned item, it makes other vessels, for example, cups for babies and wine glasses (MoneyTalksNews, 2022). In contrast to Maglite, which is more global in terms of production, Tervis prides itself in their goods being made in the USA. Moreover, on their website, they accentuate the fact that their items have been in use for generations.
In my opinion, Tervis has a rather interesting history and legacy. It started with the entrepreneur wanting to make a drinking vessel that would keep drinks cold even in the heat. The company’s positive reputation has been preserved due to the following three features: customization options, a lifetime guarantee and high quality (Tervis, 2022). To improve the latter, the second generation owner of the company added a new feature: fast delivery. Tervis aims at hiring the most talented employees, praising creativity and acknowledging failures and new ideas. As time progressed, the company was faced with more challenges, as customers were eager for more options. And, of course, it succeeded in following the customers’ demands by diversifying customization options and designs, while being loyal to quick delivery.
