Explain how you would develop effective negotiating teamwork on multiparty negotiations. Outline the actions you would take and why these would be effective
The first process will be to focus on individual skills that make a good negotiator. These skills should be cultivated at all costs since they form essential characteristics towards the improvement of one’s ability to negotiate. These skills include; organizing and planning skills which help in setting out detailed expectations on the achievements of the negotiations to be held and also make one aware of his/her limitations. There is the ability to observe as well as listen which helps one to perceive the happenings within the negotiating room. Ability to persevere and maintain patience which helps one identifies the appropriate time and effective approach towards situations. Focus on the individual’s creativity, flexibility, and the ability to develop good rapport and even genuine concern about the feelings of others (Susskind et al, 2005).
The team should have the ability to come up with suggestions that analyze the conflict at hand. This begins by looking at the history of the conflict in line with the party settings and constitution. This should also be compared with the other party’s settings involved in the negotiation. Then each member of the team is assigned a role to play based on abilities, experiences, and skills. The causes and the consequences of the conflict should be analyzed to ascertain on the small issues that contribute much to the dispute at hand. The team should be chosen based on several dynamics to signify and represent diversity in gender and culture of the parties involved. The consequent results of the conflict should be put into consideration to enable the inclusion of alternative resolutions in case of need. External factors and influences should be catered to enhance the autonomy and creativity of individuals within the negotiating table (Susskind et al, 2005).
In developing the team, the party should consider laying down the best alternatives to the agreements reached the negotiating table. This should be made based on the ideas contributed by team members without compromising the party standards and potential. The team should have the ability to analyze and scrutinize information based on the offer given by other parties. This makes it possible for the party to come up with informed and workable decisions. Then the team should have the ability to balance hunger for power and the valuable relationship which goes with it (Susskind et al, 2005).
Describe an event that would cause damage to the level of trust during the negotiation and explain the actions you would take to repair the trust and maintain positive relationships with the negotiating parties
Leaking of negotiation secrets by one party may endanger the whole negotiation process since it contributes to the development of mistrust between the parties. This can range from linking an individual to some key decisions made by one of the parties and also leaking strategic moves on yet to be decided issues. Privacy protection is of prime importance when the parties involved operate from different ecosystem domains. The security of the computers used to store information discussed within these meetings need to be checked and enhanced to avoid unnecessary leakages. These issues can be addressed by improving privacy protection and hiding the identities of the key contributors towards the decisions reached especially when reporting in the media. Each individual should be held accountable for any careless utterances (Susskind et al, 2005).
For the negotiation to remain trustworthy there should be the establishment of decentralized access rights. This gives all the parties involved the ability to get involved in access decisions. This will create some sense of integrity and confidentiality to the very sensitive information. This can as well be enhanced through the use of digital identities which can only be accessed and used as a group rather than an individual. This ensures that none of the parties can change any information unless by the consent of the other party. The collective behavior of each negotiator should be analyzed to enhance the level of communication and consultation amongst individuals.
Explain why you think these actions would be effective
The actions would be very effective since they provide a comprehensive open and flexible platform that ensures incorporation of the existing standards and protocols. This makes it easier for both parties when it comes to adoption since the model adopted is created based on mutual trust. Actions give the possibility of applying and incorporating good reputation mechanisms from both parties and amongst individuals.
Conclusion
Building trust between individual parties becomes challenging in the context of differing cultures. It is easier to reach a comfort level of agreeing on decisions when the parties involved in the negotiation share the same societal culture. This also leads to reduced costs since there are no additional learning lessons that would ensure that at least there is the existence of homogeneity in thinking and behavior. The differences in characteristics must be addressed and managed effectively. Negotiating parties should otherwise upgrade their intellectual status from being sensitive to their cultures to be sensitive and considerate of the good of others irrespective of their background.
