Organizational Behavior Study: Data Analysis Plan

Abstract

The proposed study will investigate the topic of organizational behavior and its relation to the problem of employee motivation. The purpose of it is to research the methods and techniques to strengthen staff performance in a company. It has been hypothesized that it is possible to increase the motivation of staff through the simultaneous stimulation of both material and psychological factors. Two types of research methods, which are questionnaire and survey, will be delivered to meet the study objectives. To analyze the obtained information, a verbal record analysis will be conducted. Firstly, the reduction of text to the key phrases will be held. Secondly, the subjective meaning systems will be reconstructed. Thirdly, the basic generalizations based on the comparison of individual semantic systems will be put forward. The following pattern will enable either confirming or refuting the hypothesis proposed by the current study.

Introduction

The proposed study aims to investigate the topic of organizational behavior in its connection to the issue of employee motivation and work dedication. The purpose of the exploration is to research the key methods and techniques through which leadership could enhance organizational behavior in a company (Jex & Britt, 2014). It has been hypothesized that it is possible to increase the motivation of staff through the simultaneous stimulation of both material and psychological factors. It is essential to justify the chosen research design and methods of analysis to be able to assess whether the research objectives can be met.

Data Analysis

It should be noted that qualitative research would be carried out to obtain data that are more comprehensive and in-depth. A questionnaire among the company’s employees will be delivered to review the levels of their motivation and to propose the methods to facilitate financial and spiritual incentives that the firm can apply to enhance the current situation. A survey of the managers of the company will be conducted to gain an understanding of the current measures that are already in practice. The questionnaire and survey will be employed with both closed and open-end questions (Sekaran & Bougie, 2013). A content analysis will be conducted to assess the qualitative data gathered from the survey and questionnaire. This approach will ensure that the information can be categorized and the core messages can be collected. Further on, the triangulation method will be applied to ensure the reliability of the data (Sekaran & Bougie, 2013). In addition, a counter-example will be regarded to either prove or invalidate the proposed hypothesis.

This approach was selected to study the aspects of the discussed phenomenon; in particular, it’s understanding from the perspective of the participants (Hammersley, 2013). In addition, it will be possible to study the setting that is more comprehensive in contrast to the quantitative research methods that provide fragmentary knowledge. The approach will make it possible to overcome the discrete nature of the information at the expense of holistic descriptions. Moreover, the qualitative method is more functional in terms of creating new hypotheses (Hammond & Wellington, 2012). Therefore, the current research requires satisfying the informational needs that are non-numerical in the first place.

To facilitate the transparency of the study, all procedures will be documented accurately. It will also allow the monitoring of the solutions’ logic. In its turn, the triangulation method will improve the objectivity of the results. In particular, different types of data and collection methods will be used. This approach will ensure that errors are avoided, and the data are validated (Tracy, 2012). Different types of information sources will be used in terms of the data triangulation and as for the methodological one – several methods of data collection for the study of advanced issues will be applied (questionnaire, survey). If necessary, the research can be extended through the use the theoretical triangulation. The essence of this approach would be to use different perspectives on the interpretation of the same data. However, it is essential to mention that the type of triangulation can be specified in the course of the actual research process.

Regarding the analysis, a verbal record breakdown will be conducted. It will reveal the motivational and personal characteristics or patterns of the data collected through questionnaires and surveys (Quinn Patton, 2014). In the research, the participants will need to answer both closed and open-end questions, and further thematic coding will be carried out based on their answers. It is essential to note that the data obtained in the study will be collected in the absence of a rigid structure, which will validate the findings through triangulation.

Steps

The analysis of the data will consist of three stages. To begin with, the reduction of the collected text will be held. All information received from the survey and the questionnaire will be reduced to key phrases and words. They will be allocated to semantic units; that is to say, each phrase will be assigned to a specific category. Then, the reconstruction of subjective meaning systems will be implemented. The identified regular communications will be grouped in a graphical form. Finally, the basic generalizations based on a comparison of individual semantic systems will be put forward. Such a sequence of actions consisting of three steps will assist in confirming or refuting the hypothesis proposed by the initial study topic (Quinn Patton, 2014). It is crucial to note that categorization is the most important and difficult stage because the researcher should navigate the terminology effectively and select the appropriate text extracts based on their relevance and compliance with criteria.

Types of Categorization

Three types of categorization will be integral for the research depending on their depth. Firstly, the search of specific categories will be carried out. At this stage, the researcher will look for certain events and opinions that are relevant to the study topic. Secondly, the sequences will be determined. It will be necessary to pay attention to utterances that indicate links and relationships. These fragments will be combined in a semantic unit further. Thirdly, a thematic search will be conducted. Short statements will be consolidated into thematic groups. This strategy will allow the study to develop inductively generalized judgments based on semantic relationships (Quinn Patton, 2014).

Conclusion

The advantages of qualitative analysis for this study are evident. It will enable exploring and reviewing the substantial facts and expertise of the respondents. In addition, it will allow concluding the relationships or opinions of participants. Significantly, such an approach to the analysis of data will make it possible to include the classification variables and understand the intentions of individuals. Overall, this approach is more advantageous since it is feasible and will allow identifying the characteristics that can be concealed during the quantitative analysis.
