Working Environment: Impact on Human Nature

Typically, attitude reflects one’s behavior on how one thinks or feels about various circumstances. How someone feels about themselves inside and outside their environment is influenced by their behavior in response to the stimuli subjected to their environment (Baumeister & Bushman, 2017). Individuals can respond either positively or negatively to the occurrence of events by expressing responses that depict their attitude towards such circumstances.

Application

The workplace provides an opportunity to showcase instances of either a positive or poor attitude to clarify the idea of attitude. For instance, if a working environment fosters a culture where employees feel well-treated, there are many situations when employees would exhibit actions that will help them greatly to cultivate a good attitude toward such an environment. On the other hand, employees would resent a poor working environment since such cues distort how they view the environment at work. This is because it is in human nature to respond favorably to circumstances that allow individuals to flourish in their natural environment and adversely to circumstances that create undesirable outcomes. However, as attitude is a behavioral response that has evolved through time, it is critical to comprehend why each person adopts a distinct attitude in response to their surroundings, particularly the workplace. For instance, a company may implement operational conditioning strategies that motivate staff to have a positive outlook toward their work. This may be done by implementing several business methods, such as the usage of incentives to encourage their staff. Implementing such environmental cues might encourage workers to uphold high work ethics in the workplace, which is seen as a favorable attitude in business. Employees may elect to lose interest in and adopt weak work ethics, however, if the company ultimately fails to live up to their expectations of rewarding their work ethics, as the operational conditioning of the workplace would instilled a stimuli that encourages negative attitude.
