Uber: Organizational Culture

These days, Uber is one of the largest transportation industry enterprises and one of the most successful companies in Silicon Valley. It is a global technology company that develops chauffeur-driven and food delivery mobile services. The service, which originated in San Francisco as a startup, has become global, delivering impressive financial results. The secrets of success are unique positioning, Kalanick’s leadership style, the corporate culture, and areas for future development.

Kalanick’s leadership style is characterized by a high level of trust in the subordinate, albeit with control over the implementation of tasks. The entrepreneur encourages employees to disagree with his opinions and express their suggestions since the best ideas appear in the discussion. Kalanick monitors all the business details; however, he provides more freedom to managers (Wilson, 2017). Consequently, the most crucial feature of Uber’s organizational culture is each employee’s responsibility for their work and results under the managers’ control (Wilson, 2017). Employees defend the company’s interests while taking possible problems as their own.

With regard to the next steps after Kalanick’s departure, Uber’s future depends mostly on whether the company can solve the problem of automated cars. This intention might help the company to remain relevant as more automakers are developing their self-driving vehicles. Kalanick’s attention was focused on the creation of unmanned vehicles. At the moment, there is an increase in the price of Uber stocks with an upward trend. Even though the company has announced the layoff of nearly 3.7 thousand employees as travel demand plummeted amid the coronavirus crisis, the need for delivery services has grown sharply (Li, 2020). Amid the IPO decision, Uber’s valuation has increased from $ 76 billion to $ 120 billion (Li, 2020). However, after a period of losses and falling prices, the management needs to develop other industries.

At present, Uber is one of the largest startups in the United States and one of the most highly rated globally. The company’s motivation develops through rewards and involvement in decision-making. The main principle of corporate culture is personal responsibility. Uber intends to become not just a platform for transporting passengers but a transportation company. Therefore, the development of technology will allow the company to build a new culture of consumption.
